Infants and children are eligible from birth to three years of age. If they have a delay of 25% or greater in any one of the following five developmental areas:
Cognitive
Communication
Physical
Social-emotional
Adaptive
Or have a diagnosed physical or mental condition resulting in developmental delay
A specialist determination that there is a delay even though it does not show up on the assessments (called an informed clinical opinion)
If your son or daughter is not eligible for Early Intervention, they may still be eligible for the tracking services. Children eligible for that service are:
Under three and a half (3 ½) pounds birth weight
Cared for in neonatal intensive care units (NICU)
Born to chemically dependent mothers
Seriously abused or neglected
Confirmed to have dangerously high levels of lead poisoning
The Department of Public Welfare (DPW), Office of Child Development is responsible for the Commonwealth’s Early Intervention program. The County Developmental Disabilities program administers the Early Intervention program locally.
What are some warning signs that my child may need help?
Stiff or floppy muscles
Lack of eye contact
Trouble seeing or hearing
Not sitting alone by 1 year of age
Not talking by 2 years of age
Clumsy or falls often
Does not mimic thins other people do by 3 years of age
Venous blood level of 15uh/dL or greater for children ages 6 months through 5 years old
